The United Methodist Women of Canaan Community Church, A United Methodist Congregation, will host two FREE workshops on Fitness/Wellness and Nutrition and provide free blood pressure checks on August 21, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Canaan Community Church, 2401 Elgin Street, Savannah, GA to help individuals improve their health. The workshops will be entertaining, educational & full of energy encouraging people to take a look at their health and the choices that they have created. Take some time out for yourself! Bring your family and friends and learn:

Fitness & Wellness Workshop - “Commit To Be Fit”

Participants will learn basic principles behind developing a health and fitness program. They will be given guidance on establishing fitness goals, safety and injury prevention, exercise and stress management, and how to develop a safe exercise program utilizing five components of fitness. The workshop will mix classroom components with hands-on learning to equip participants with the tools and knowledge they need to succeed, so wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Erica Tate, Ph.D. of the African-American Health Information & Resource Center St. Joseph's/Candler Healthcare System will be the speaker of the workshop.

Free Nutrition Workshop - “Eat Right, Feel Right”

The workshop is designed to combine the professional recommendations of a Registered Dietitian to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to promote healthful eating habits. Optimizing your eating habits can aid in weight management, physical energy, and mental alertness. You are what you eat! Participants will learn how to understand food labels, healthy meal planning, how to employ positive eating habits, MyPyramid,  food and diet myths, how to control your portions, smart detoxification through foods and not fad diets and healthy choices at restaurants. Rewrecka Byrd, Nutritionist of Chatham County Health Department will be the presenter of the workshop.

Free Blood Pressure Checks

Blood pressure checks are quick, free and painless - and could save your life. You can get your blood pressure checked for free at the workshop. Stop by the blood pressure table at the workshop and have your blood pressure checked and receive free information on controlling your blood pressure. Blood pressure checks will be provided by Cleveland Latimore of Community Cardiovascular Council.

Did we say it's free? One catch, though - seating is limited. All attendees must pre-register online for the workshop. See You There!!!
